When you take a look in your jewelry box, what do you see? Are there large smooth pieces of trendy jewelry or do you mostly own meticulously detailed pieces? Part of the excitement of having a selection to choose from is there are many fashion opportunities to take advantage of, but not if all of your celebrity trendy pieces are exactly the same.

If all the jewelry in your stash is the same, consider picking up something different — you will feel adventurous every time you wear that different piece of trendy jewelry! For a long time, I mostly had beaded necklaces and bracelets in my own jewelry box, and that was thoroughly unsatisfying. Here are a few textures that can help diversify your jewelry holdings:

For trendy necklaces or rings to be considered smooth, the detail work should be very limited. If you run your fingers across the surface, it should feel smooth. Beads, rounded stones, in-set stones and some types of crystals all fit this category, like the ring below:

Trendy Jewelry and Designs to Become Rihanna Reality TV

I suppose it isn’t too much of a stretch to think that trendy jewelry would find its way into reality TV shows. Pop star Rihanna has announced plans to host and produce a TV show in the UK where she will challenge British fashion designers to create innovative and seductive celebrity trendy looks for her.

She’ll be on Sky Living HD for her first television project. I anticipate seeing a lot of creativity coming to the fashion world from the combination of Rihanna’s personal style and the talent behind the fashion designers who participate in the show. Hopefully, a few trendy jewelry designers will be apart of the competition — celebrity trendy jewelry is such a strong part of any look.

This isn’t the first time that celebrity trendy styles have made their way to reality TV, but this will be a first for dressing a particular person. Perhaps the format will be like some of the creative cake competitions where three or more teams create a cake and the client chooses from the selection. Having Rihanna wear your duds would be a boost to any fashion designer’s career!

Although she isn’t the kind to play copycat, I would be worried if Lady Gaga tried to do this sort of show. The designs she creates range from outrageous to disturbingly bizarre, and the tone of that show would be very different. While Rihanna has a certain edge to her style, she always looks gorgeous. Lady Gaga seems to make some of her ensembles intentionally unflattering, which works well from a publicity standpoint but not from a general fashion standpoint.

The kind of publicity a reality show creates could really influence an industry, so the impact of the show on the trendy jewelry and fashion sectors should be interesting, even if it only impacts UK designs.

A Rare Event: Celebrity Trendy Silver and Gold Both in Vogue (But Still Not Mixed)

Fashion trends are interesting to me because of the rules that the celebrity trendy fashion industry sets for itself, but after so long it will eventually break them. Gold and silver are a current example of this phenomenon.

For many fashion seasons and cycles, it was often either gold or silver that was in vogue, not both at once. Mixing gold and silver was considered tacky (and still is most of the time). But I keep seeing that both silver and gold pieces are in style this year. Even celebrity trendy jewelry is going both ways.

Which is fantastic to me, because I can wear more of my pieces in the same season. With silver in, I’d suggest sterling silver CZ stud earrings that add the clean and crisp feeling that anything with cubic zirconia (CZ) stones has. We have sizes ranging from 5mm to 10mm in these trendy earrings.

The Year of the Dragon is on its way here and you had better be ready — The dragon is ambitious and bold!

The Chinese New Year on Jan. 23 will turn from the Year of the Rabbit to the Year of the Dragon and with a look at what the celebrity trendy jewelry and fashion world has to offer for 2012 so far, it looks to be a fabulous and bold new year. Valentino to Release Web Exclusive Accessories — How the Internet Has Changed Fashion

An interesting news item popped up during the week that was pleasantly shocking — the fashion world is beginning to officially give preference to their web customers. Yahoo! News recently reported that the Valentino’s Fall 2012 menswear collection will be first view-able and available online before it ever makes it to stores.

That menswear collection was debuted on Wednesday at the Pitti Uomo event in Florence, Italy, and the selection is looking promising. But this marketing decision means that those who order something from the new line via the Internet will get their clothing delivered to their home before anyone is able to find it in brick and mortar stores.

Although this only applies to certain accessories and apparel from designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, the fact that there will be online exclusive pieces from the line is, in a way, stunning. It’s part of a project called “Reserve from the Runway.” The fashion industry, and the whole world really, has changed drastically over the last five to 10 years. Internet sales have only grown, much to the chagrin of retail stores using space in every town across the country.

Not all industries adapt quickly to change, but the fashion industry does fairly well when new technologies become prevalent, and this new development is a great example. It adapts but manages to keep some traditions going. Contrast that with the newspaper industry, which has been slow and stumbling to adapt to the possibilities and the frustrations of the Internet.

Ordering clothing online can be a bit treacherous, as gauging the size of an item can be difficult, but if you know the brand well or you have your measurements written down, it isn’t too bad. Buying jewelry online makes a lot more sense, as long legs, short torsos and other such factors aren’t going to impact how a necklace looks on you.

In short: Building a better or more varied wardrobe is easier than it has ever been with the popularity of the Internet.

Stack Bracelets For A Cute, Layered Look

I gushed over my love of mixing leather and gold bracelets together in my last post, and here is why: I love the stacked bracelets look. The combinations available from even just a few pieces can be quite stunning.

Layering gold and leather bracelets up your arm is fantastic for a warm and traditional look, but there are also many other possibilities. Wrap bracelets provide an easy way to pull off the stacked armlet look without having to buy more than one. Trendy bracelets in this style wrap around the wrist multiple times, like this one:

The colors this bracelet set brings together make it an accessory for almost anything in your closet. I prefer to stick to solid colors when stacking bracelets, as I dislike the way certain textures mix, and that is why this bracelet set is so pleasing to the eye.

Not all bracelets are for layering though. When wearing a showpiece bracelet with complex designs and many in-set stones, that fantastic piece should not have to complete against other jewelry. Pieces like the one below are just so fitting by themselves that adding other bracelets around it only detracts from the overall look.

But a chain wrap bracelet like the one below would work just find when paired with other bracelets as the detailing is not nearly as small.

There are two combinations I stay away from when I stack bracelets. The first is not mixing gold and silver jewelry. It just looks sloppy to me. The other is that only match beaded bracelets with other beaded bracelets or leather bracelets. While you might get away with a bracelet that uses very small beads, the big beaded bracelets just look cheap next to a gold tone armlet.

Some color combos are so well-matched that they become an instant classic when paired together. Two pieces of jewelry displaying such tones may appear ordinary when apart but create a look that is both pleasing to the eye and a little bit comforting.

That’s how I feel about gold and leather bracelets being paired together, anyway. Maybe its the meeting of two Old World materials — animal hide or leather has been in use for centuries and gold has been a driving force of both the creation and destruction of many a civilization for nearly as long. Or maybe its the generally warm tones leather and gold bracelets bring out in each other. There is just something comfortably stylish about gold and leather together.

One of the fashion bloggers I follow, Grace Niu, recently posted a gold and leather bracelets combo that I absolutely love on her blog. I’ve seen her wear plenty of colorful bracelets as “arm candy,” but this is one of my favorite combos she has put together.
