Trendy Necklaces to Wear on Casual Fridays

One of the best opportunities to showcase your true style at work is on casual Friday. Not every office partakes in this weekly relaxation of the dress code, but those companies that do see a bit more employee satisfaction and creativity. Apparently the dress code was made popular during the rise of dot-com companies, according to a 2007 article of USAToday.

But while casual is allowed, there is such a thing as overly casual! Check out the Gracefuls design and makeup blog for a short list of the dos and don’ts on casual Friday, including ways to dress up your jeans and not looking like a casual slob. I’d add one more to her list of don’ts: flip flops. I’ve seen a few companies throw fits about open-toed sandals, so it is often considered to be too casual for an office environment.

We must have a thing for CZ encrusted skulls, because uses that same design idea and does something different with it. If darker stones were used, the overall affect would be a little too morbid.

Spring is on its Way: Welcome Back, Neons and Pastels!

By the time the spring fashion season rolls around, it’s like a breath of fresh air. After months of cold, soggy weather and darkened skies, the colors of spring start to show up in fashion before even the flowers start to bloom. It’s always a refreshing and welcome change in the weather and in our wardrobes.

Every year, trendy jewelry fads come and go, but spring colors are relatively consistent every year (or at least for the last few). Neon, bold colors were popular last spring and some of that flavor has transferred over to this season’s line up. But not without a few pastels shades sneaking in for a cut of the action.

While clashing colors and patterns so recklessly doesn’t seem to have carried over like neon did, there is still some present. However, the pairings are more natural so far (but who knows as the fashion season progresses?).

Keep Your Watch Ticking With a Little TLC

Not many people wear trendy watches in this day and age with cell phones and more information than we really care to have pushed into our view, which constantly includes the time. But still, not having to dig for your cell phone to see if you are running late can be a blessing (and won’t actually make you more late).

Even if you aren’t a professional that is required to wear a watch, wearing a trendy timepiece acts as a sign to others that you take your time seriously and that they shouldn’t waste yours. It’s subtle, but a celebrity trendy watch can say a lot. However, don’t bother investing in a watch if you aren’t going to give it a little TLC every once in a while. No matter what watch you buy, there are a few rules you need to follow if you want it to last you more than a few years (or even past the life of the battery):

Keep your watch away from water, and remember that “water resistant” is not “waterproof.” Water resistant watches should not be submerged in water!
Take the watch to a professional to open the back and replace the battery.
If you own a purely mechanical watch, wind it daily.
Polish any metal surfaces periodically, including the watch band (if applicable).
Have a professional clean the watch regularly. How often you need to clean it depends on the watch, but cleaning every three to five years is often the mid-range. However, if your watch tends to get dirty or you own a pocket watch, more frequent cleanings will be required to keep it running longer.
Do not store watches with silver on wood surfaces. The acids in the wood can tarnish silver and leave stains on your watch.

How to Maintain Your CZ Stud Earrings (Cubic Zirconia)

One of my favorite versatile pairs of earrings — CZ stud earrings — are fairly easy to clean and polish as far as trendy jewelry types are concerned. Just as they add that simple air of elegance to most outfits or just accentuate your other silver jewelry, sterling silver CZ stud earrings are easy to maintain.

For tips on how to maintain the silver studs, check out our list of tips on maintaining jewelry made of silver.

Cleaning CZ or cubic zirconia stones is just as simple as cleaning a diamond — take some soapy water and scrub the stone with a soft brush. Rinse well with water and dry. If there is a heavy layer of grime on your stone that just won’t come up that way, try a cleaning solution designed specifically for CZ stones.
One way to prevent dirt and greasy substances from tainting the shine on your sterling silver CZ studs or other CZ trendy jewelry is to apply makeup, lotion, hairspray and other beauty products before slipping your jewelry on. Remove jewelry temporarily to apply these if necessary to avoid dirt build up.
Purchase a soft jewelry pouch to store your CZ stud earrings. Although the stones are likely to get scratched as they have a high hardness rating that ranks near diamonds, the edges of the stones may actually scratch other jewelry you store along with it.
Remember to clean the stone differently than the metal that it is set into, if necessary. Your CZ stones may shine brilliantly, but the effect will be wasted if the metal holding it in place is tarnished and discolored.
Always put it away in the same place. CZ jewelry can be expensive, especially if the trendy jewelry you own is high quality, so be sure not to lose it under the bed or to your hungry dog.
