Color Crush: How to wear this season’s brightest hues

We love the bright vibrant colors that are everywhere this season, but it can be a little daring…especially if you are unsure how to wear them.  Accessorizing with bold colors takes a little know-how, which is why we’re here to guide you. Follow these 4 tips and you’ll feel confident taking the plunge into the summer’s vivid accessories.

Tip 1: Don’t go overboard
Pair electric blue earrings with classic neutral clothing pieces like white, camel, gray and black. Keep it simple and let these earring shine.

Tip 2: Mix up your color
The beauty of these bright colors is that they don’t have to match. Yes, you read that right…they shouldn’t match. Pair a green bracelet with a soft pink dress or neon orange with navy or cobalt blue. The key is contrast.

Tip 4: Flatter your features
Make sure you pick a hue that is right for your features and skin tones. Fairer skin tones should stay away from orange and yellow hues. Instead, they should opt for blues and pinks. Bright yellows and oranges pop against darker skin tones.

May is for Mother’s Day

One of my favorite gifts I received as a new mom was a charm necklace with a single classic charm embellished with the initial of my brand new baby girl.  As a mom of two, that favorite necklace now includes a matching charm with the initial of my son. It’s truly an heirloom and something I’ll have forever.

Double the Trouble with the Sergio Gutierrez Liquid Metal Collection

sergio gutierrezInspired by his passion for engineering, Colombian-born jewelry designer Sergio Gutierrez made a breakthrough with his continuous innovation of the metal mesh as a fashion accessory. He utilizes computer circuitry into his designs to make them stand out. Merging modern technology with vintage style made him very popular with celebrities like Betsey Johnson, Tyra Banks, and Sarah Michelle Gellar to name a few.

The Liquid Metal Collection, or more popularly known as Liquid Silver, resembles chain mail-like bracelets that wraps around a woman’s wrist like a cuff. They come in various designs for every personality, style, purpose, or occasion.

LiquidMetalA piece from the Classic Collection, the Liquid Butterfly, exudes all things feminine and fun. Its feather-like weight makes it easier for us ladies to make use of our hands while we flaunt this gorgeous piece wherever we may be. Worn day or night, this bracelet will surely catch anyone’s eye. It can be paired with just about anything too!

If you’re craving for something more bold, daring, and extra flirty, then you’re in for another treat. Or should I say trouble? Both pieces are undeniably gorgeous and classy. It’s so hard to choose between the two of them. But, why choose when you can have them both? Double sexiness. Twice the fun.

Valentino to Release Web Exclusive Accessories — How the Internet Has Changed Fashion

An interesting news item popped up during the week that was pleasantly shocking — the fashion world is beginning to officially give preference to their web customers. Yahoo! News recently reported that the Valentino’s Fall 2012 menswear collection will be first view-able and available online before it ever makes it to stores.

That menswear collection was debuted on Wednesday at the Pitti Uomo event in Florence, Italy, and the selection is looking promising. But this marketing decision means that those who order something from the new line via the Internet will get their clothing delivered to their home before anyone is able to find it in brick and mortar stores.

Although this only applies to certain accessories and apparel from designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, the fact that there will be online exclusive pieces from the line is, in a way, stunning. It’s part of a project called “Reserve from the Runway.” The fashion industry, and the whole world really, has changed drastically over the last five to 10 years. Internet sales have only grown, much to the chagrin of retail stores using space in every town across the country.

Not all industries adapt quickly to change, but the fashion industry does fairly well when new technologies become prevalent, and this new development is a great example. It adapts but manages to keep some traditions going. Contrast that with the newspaper industry, which has been slow and stumbling to adapt to the possibilities and the frustrations of the Internet.

Ordering clothing online can be a bit treacherous, as gauging the size of an item can be difficult, but if you know the brand well or you have your measurements written down, it isn’t too bad. Buying jewelry online makes a lot more sense, as long legs, short torsos and other such factors aren’t going to impact how a necklace looks on you.

In short: Building a better or more varied wardrobe is easier than it has ever been with the popularity of the Internet.

Spring 2012 Just Around the Bend — A Look at Fashions To Come

2011 has come and gone, but in its wake we are left with colored jeans, bright tops and colorful trendy jewelry. Now that we can see Spring 2012 fashions just on the horizon, it is obvious that designers are coming down from their addiction to neon colors and are toning down the brightness.

Not to say that 2011 didn’t leave a lasting impression. The assortment of colors that we saw last year are still in the mix, but they’ve been taken down a few notches. Instead of neon pink, you are finding blouses in more salmon or a more natural bright pink. If there are neon tones, they are mixed with more neutral shades for a look that isn’t as eye-popping but adds a more subtle look to your appearance — there wasn’t much subtlety in Spring 2011 fashions.

You’ll still some overly bright colors on the runway this year, but it looks like that will be the exception rather than the rule. Primarily, those neon tones are being found on accessories — shoes, purses, rings, necklaces. Contrasting bright colors still appears to be quite in vogue, but on a smaller scale and with more natural pairings.

But what to do with the colorful outfits you bought last year without replacing everything in your closet? Mix and match your vivid wardrobe with the more neutral tones — brightly colored jeans can be paired with a brown, black or white blouse and perhaps a crystal trendy ring like one of these two:

I’ve also seen a lot of bright red on the runway for 2012 and while I don’t particularly look my best in red, it is a classic and I’m happy to see it represented so well (especially when paired with white). That’s one of the reasons I love this necklace, this little bit of red color won’t wash me out.

Top 10 Affordable Trendy Jewelry Picks from 2011 — Part 2

The fashion world will remember 2011 as a year when old styles reinvigorated themselves into something new amidst a worldwide economic recession. Envious Gems was able to shop the world for fantastic affordable trendy jewelry finds this year so fashionable folk didn’t have to take out a loan just to dress up their wardrobe.

Yesterday, we started counting down the best jewelry picks that we offered in 2011, and now we will take on the top five.

5. Circle Drop Earrings

Celebrity Trendy Circle Drop Earrings
2″ matte gold earrings

The texture and tone of these trendy earrings make it a perfect accessory for a simple yet elegant look. I’d love to wear these with a cute, no-nonsense dress or a frilly blouse — scalloped layers were a hit this year and would pair well with these earrings.

4. Chic Soft Leather Bracelet

Chic Soft Leather Bracelet

Soft pebbled leather bracelet with gold tone studs, crystal stones and multiple rings.

Layered necklaces were not the only layering trend that happened this year, which is why I love this bracelet. While it is perfect as a stand alone, it’s also suited to be the centerpiece of a layered look accompanied by smaller, thinner bracelets.

3. Feather and Chain Earrings

Feather and Chain Earrings

Handmade with multiple chains, crystals and a feather each

Tribal jewelry and especially Navajo-flavored fashions were a major trend this year and that looks to continue into 2012. But these earrings take that look one step beyond with the chains and crystals that add that modern, glittery style. The crystals on the feathers are a perfect touch to complete the look.

2. Feather Chain Necklace

Celebrity Trendy Feather Chain Necklace

Multiple feather colors and a metal collar for a tribal look.

And what would go better with feather earrings than a feather necklace? This blend of modern style and tribal influences really works with this necklace. The metal collar that connects to the feathers are really what sells this piece.

1. Women’s Fingerless Gloves with Rabbit Fur

Women's Fingerless Gloves with Rabbit Fur

Faux suede on the outside with real rabbit fur trim -- comes in four different colors

These are the coziest fashion accessory I have seen this year. Fingerless gloves allow you to text and play Angry Birds all day while the soft rabbit fur keeps your fingers warm.

Top 10 Affordable Trendy Jewelry Picks from 2011 — Part 1

Keeping an eye on the fashion world has been a treat this year, as there have been fantastic opportunities to provide affordable trendy jewelry that keeps budget-minded fashionistas looking cute all year round without breaking the bank.

Today we countdown our favorite pieces from 2011 that we have offered.

10. Alexis Multi Chain Leather Bracelet

I love that this leather bracelet isn’t what it seems at first glance. The gold tone chains combined with the leather have people take a second look.

9. Zoey Multi Strand Stretch Beaded Charm Bracelet

Zoey Multi Strand Stretch Beaded Charm Bracelet

With strands of faceted, wood and resin beads with three crystal covered charms.

Silver and gold tones have both earned their place in your jewelry box but the bright and warm tones this bracelet exudes are perfect for hot summer and autumn nights. The flashy appearance can also work for a Christmas or New Year celebration.

8. Bali Crystal Knuckle Stretch Ring

Celebrity Trendy Bali Crystal Knuckle Stretch Ring

Matte silver tone with multiple crystals in the center

An off-shoot of the minimalist fashion trend that popped back up this year, the Bali ring adds a little glam to that sometimes dull look. The crystals aligned in a diamond shape make this knuckle ring stylish and memorable.

7. Chic Two Tone Necklace

Celebrity Trendy Chic Two Tone Necklace

Black and silver tones with silky, fluid chains

Layered was definitely in this year and thus layered necklaces were an obvious favorite amongst celebrity trends and everyday stylish women. Fancy chains don’t have to be restricted to rappers, and this necklace pulls off quite the elegant look when paired with the right ensemble.

6. Crystal Turtle Stretch Ring

Celebrity Trendy Crystal Turtle Stretch Ring

Turquoise acrylic stones and small rhinestones on a gold tone turtle shell

It was a tough call picking between this ring and the owl ring that we have in stock for this list, but I think it is the adorable turtle and flashy style that had me choose this one. I also love the gold tone and the bright and cheery colors.

Tomorrow, we’ll finish this list with our top 5 jewelry pieces.
